General presentation

The principle of sonic drilling is initially the solution when conventional drilling techniques do not provide the desired results. This technology offers numerous advantages in both destructive and core drilling: increased productivity, no or low deviation, 100% or close to 100% sample recovery even in difficult soils, no or little drilling fluid, etc...

This drilling technique uses the high frequency resonance energy generated by the sonic head, at over 150 vibrations/second (vertical oscillation of less than 10 mm amplitude). The energy is thus diffused over the drill string and tool.
The friction effect is also considerably reduced, which increases the penetration speed and facilitates the extraction of the drilling equipment. The method causes liquefaction (limited to 1-2 mm around the borehole), inertia and increases the density of the soil while decreasing the porosity temporarily.

To ensure the success of difficult sites, the Sonic drilling technique is the solution, especially when the usual drilling techniques are ineffective. Destructive drilling is faster and without the need for a compressor (air drilling is possible if desired), while reducing alteration of the surrounding terrain and noise pollution (ideal for urban sites). In core drilling, the samples are perfect with unequalled recovery rates.

MAIN ADVANTAGES

Sample recovery rate is 100% (or close to it), even through multiple formations
Samples are perfect, with little or no reworking, for all types of soil
Core drilling in very heterogeneous soils is possible without casing thanks to the Aqualock
Productivity is increased: 4 to 6 times faster, especially in alluvial soils
Unequalled drilling precision: deviation is less than 1% and samples are taken to the exact depth defined
The life of the equipment (rods, tools, ...) is much longer than conventional
Drilling is clean and fast without cross-contamination, ideal for nuclear sites, oil stations and petrochemicals
Reduced health risks and disposal costs of contaminated waste (up to 70%)
No or little drilling fluid required (depending on the method)
Without compressor for reduced production costs
Without alteration of the surrounding terrain
Drilling cased as you go.
